Recession-specific positioning: if you've worked through a previous economic downturn, mention it ("Scaled operations 40% while navigating 2020 pandemic restrictions"). If you've survived layoffs (i.e., were retained while others weren't), you can subtly signal this ("As one of 12 retained engineers following 35% workforce reduction, led migration of core infrastructure during cost-cutting period"). If you're currently job searching during a downturn, apply for roles one level below your current title — being slightly overqualified is actually a competitive advantage when employers want more for less.
